Title: Drupal Developer

Location: New York, NY

Duration: 6 Months

The client is seeking a highly skilled Drupal Developer proficient in managing technical deliverables and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The consultant must have strong expertise in custom Drupal module development , API integrations , content migration , and web accessibility standards .

This role supports the stability, extensibility, and long-term sustainability of the SDM and related Drupal systems while improving site architecture, optimizing editorial workflows, and ensuring security and scalability for future Drupal versions.

The consultant will work closely with DOT’s IT&T and Urban Design Unit to implement best practices in configuration management , version control , deployment , QA/QC , and documentation .

The consultant will:

• Identify functional and non-functional requirements using industry best practices.

• Prepare, review, and update requirements, specifications, business processes, and solution recommendations.

• Work with senior business analysts, DOT business units, and SMEs to define, test, and implement requirements.

• Conduct interviews, workshops, surveys, and review system documentation to gather requirements.

• Identify and document existing system deficiencies.

• Match emerging technology trends with business needs.

• Participate in meetings with tech and business teams to clarify and implement requirements.

(Candidates lacking the mandatory skills will not be considered.)

• 8+ years specifying, analyzing, and documenting requirements for mission-critical web/client-server applications.

• Minimum 5 years as a Full-stack PHP Developer with a demonstrable portfolio.

• Minimum 5 years hands-on Drupal development with a solid portfolio.

• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking ability.

• BA/BS degree in a technology-related field (or equivalent).

• Drupal module contributor experience (strongly preferred).

• Experience leading medium to large Drupal site migrations.

• Python development experience.

• Familiarity with Geo Mapping and Game Engine design/implementation.

• Effective presentation and leadership skills.

• Understanding of diverse application development environments, tools, and methodologies.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Excellent communication skills for interacting with executives, managers, and SMEs.

• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

• Requirements elicitation experience using various methods.

• Proficiency with Waterfall, RUP, and Agile SDLC processes.

• Ability to accurately estimate work effort for delivery commitments.

The ideal candidate must have strong experience in:

• Drupal 9/10 custom module development, theming, and API integrations

• Drupal Views, Paragraphs, Entities, Taxonomies, Configurations

• Advanced content workflows, moderation, audit logs, revisioning

• Migration planning, auditing, execution, remediation

• Solr/ElasticSearch/Drupal Search API search enhancements

• Word/PDF ingestion, media management, content transformation pipelines

• Front-end enhancements for tables, responsive design, interactive media

• Accessibility compliance & performance optimization

• Export tools (PDF, Word, CSV)

• Custom reporting and backend utilities

• Security compliance

• Documentation & training

• Knowledge transfer to non-technical users
